Players: 12+ | Difficulty: 2 |
Description: Each team sends two players to try to win the ball from the opposite teams third while the others try to possess and move the ball around.
Application:
Helps improve attackers positioning while defending from the front & the back line/midfielders movement while holding possession.

Instructions

EXAMPLE FOR RED TEAM
Red team will have a ball to try and keep possession of.
They will send two* players into the opposite teams "zone", where they will try to steal the BLUE teams ball.
While this is happening: the rest of their team will try to hold possession of THEIR OWN BALL.
To keep possession, they can use their own zone as well as the MIDDLE ZONE (no-mans land).
Once their two attackers (or someone in the middle zone) wins their opposing teams ball, they will simultaneously work to bring that ball back to their own zone, while also holding possession of their original ball.
Once both balls are in their zone, they gain a point and the balls are reset.
Rules

The MIDDLE ZONE is OPEN TO ANYONE - Use this zone to help improve midfielder movements.
Only 2* members of a team can go into the opposite teams zone (final third). (AT A TIME)
TO WIN A POINT : A team must occupy BOTH BALLS in their own zone.
Setup

3 Zones - Size dependent on player count.
Coaching Points

*** To increase difficulty, the coach can decide to "send another player in" to the opposite zone as time progresses.
Decide whether players should feel free to rotate out of the zones they are in, or stay to a rough position.
Make sure players feel confident using the middle space to both hold possession and defend. (It is more risky since the other team can steal the ball easier, but also opens up more space for possession).
Players should be aware of both sides of the pitch.
Players are loud with communication
