Players: 6+ | Difficulty: 3 |

Description: Unbalanced Team vs Team game that focuses on quick counter attacks.

Application: Helps players learn how to confidently position themselves to defend & attack in different, unbalanced situations.

Instructions

  1. Players are split into two teams and line up at the goal posts of opposite goals.

  2. The coach (in black) will play a ball out into the center.

  3. One player from each team will run out. This will be a 1v1 to goal.

  4. The two players will go until one scores.

  5. Once a player scores, another player from THEIR team will be allowed on the pitch and it will become a 2v1.

  6. The player that concedes will immediately get a new ball passed to them from the coach. This player must be quick to get into a goal scoring position before the now two opponents gets situated.

  7. This game can become a 4v1 and end very quickly, or become a back and forth fight to keep the two teams even in player count.

Coaching Points

  • Make sure the players utilize their goalie.

  • The conceding players position immediately after being scored on is of utmost importance. If they are slow to move into a good space, then they will now have to beat two players.

  • Right after being scored on, the conceding player should turn into space and call for the ball from the coach. They will have to be quick to score before the now two defenders can get in position.

  • This game commonly ends in a 4v1. Even in a complete blow out, the single player gets good cardio and learning how to slow down a counter attacking play.

  • To make this drill less difficult, you can allow the teammates who aren't in play yet to line the outside of the pitch for passing.

  • Once a team is X amount of players behind, a mercy rule can be added. "Add a player in once they are X teammates behind even if they haven't scored."

Setup

  • 2 Goals

  • A playing field based on the size of your team. 25-50 Yards.
