Players: 2+ | Difficulty: 2 |

Description:  Side-on 1v1 dribbling through gates.

Application: Attacking side-on, as well as defenders learning how to pressure attackers away from dangerous areas.

Instructions

AS SEEN IN DRAWING:

  1. Players line up at the yellow cones.

  2. The Red Player passes to the Blue Player.

  3. The Blue Player represents a wing player with their back to the sideline.

  4. The Blue Player tries to dribble forward, and dribble through one of the gates on the "inside" (this represents driving the ball inside the pitch).

  5. The father gates equal more points (1,2,3) , to reward skill and ball retention down the pitch.

  6. HOWEVER, the Blue Player can also add some deception, and turn and dribble to one of the lower point gates (representing turning back and playing the ball back around).

Setup

  • 3 Cone Gates down a 20-30 yard rectangular grid.

Rules

  • As soon as the defensive player steals/kicks out the ball, the ball is dead.

  • Players should keep track of their points (or not, points are an option).

Rotation

  • Players switch lines after each round.

Coaching Points

  • Can add time limit.

  • Defenders can learn how to position their bodies to push an attacker away from dangerous areas (higher point gates)

  • Let players gain confidence in attacking from different angles (side-on in this case)

  • Players should learn when it is best to turn the attack around, and come back (towards the lower point gates).
