Players: 3+ | Difficulty: 2 |
Description: Players receive a pass and must make a turn based on their knowledge of surroundings, followed by a possible 1v1.
Application: Improves ability to check over shoulder while receiving a pass with your back to a defender.

Instructions

BASED ON EXAMPLE:
Red Player: Attacker
Blue Player: Defender
The Red Player checks through the gate for a pass from the coach.
The Blue Player will run to EITHER side of the gate.
Before receiving the ball, the Red Player checks over their shoulder to see where the Blue Player is, and will turn to the other side of the gate with the ball and try to score in one of the three goals/targets.
The Blue Player will round the gate, and try to catch up and block/steal the ball.
Setup

3 Mini Goals / Targets 2-3 yards apart.
2 Lines of players behind the goals.
1 "Start" cone in front of the goals.
A gate of either cones or polls.
A top area with balls for the passer.
Rules

Once a round has ended, two new players step up to the start cone, and can go whenever the attacker starts running.
The ball is dead once the defender steals/kicks out the ball.
Rotation

Attacker to Defender OR
Attacker -> Defender -> Passer
Coaching Points

The "Coach" passer position can be changed to a rotating position.
If the attacker turns to the side the defender went to, they will most likely steal/kick out the ball, resulting in the turn being over.
The pass should come right when the player is about to enter the gate, allowing for a first touch turn.
Can be simple or deceptive turns.
Turns should be quick and effective when rounding the polls.
Don't let players cut corners.
For Youth Coaching:
Give players 2 touches. One to receive and look behind them, one to turn around the cones.
Can reduce to one goal for simplicity.
