Players: 3+ | Difficulty: 2 |
Description: 1v1 Receiving a ball with your back to a defender.
Application: Gaining confidence to turn or beat a defender while starting with your back to them.

Instructions

Players will line up in two lines beside the pug goal.
The attacker will initiate the game, by running towards the coach to receive a pass.
The defender will follow behind, ready to defend.
The attacker will need to turn and attack to goal.
Setup

Cone grid: 10yds x 5-8yds.
Pug goal.
2 cones for lines beside pug goal.
Lots of balls at the top of the grid.
Rules

The round will end once the ball goes out of play or someone scores.
Either player can score.
Rotation

Players switch lines. OR
Attacker -> Defender -> Passer (if coach doesn't want to pass)
Coaching Points

Can the attacker turn past the defender on their first touch?
Does the player need to take a touch away to face forward.
How do the players prefer their one-on-ones?
Make sure the players ask for the ball.
Make sure the players check their shoulder for the defenders position.
Does the defender charge in and stab? Apply pressure? Hold back?
For Youth Coaching:
Have the passer/coach be an option for the attacker to make it a 2v1.
