Players: 3+ | Difficulty: 2 & 3 |
Description: Players will work to improve checking their shoulder while passing. While continuously passing, a player will be scanning for a raised hand and work on their ability to turn at the correct moment.
Application: Checking your shoulder while receiving a pass to know if you have space to turn and play forward.

FOR EXERCISE 1
Players: 2-5 | Difficulty: 2 & 3
Instructions

Player B pass the ball back and forth with Player A.
Player B checks their shoulder as often as possible to look at Player D.
At any moment (as Player A & B pass the ball) Player D will raise either their left or right hand.
Once Player B sees this, they will turn around their cone to the raised hand side and play Player D.
Players B and D will now pass the ball back and forth until player B notices the opposite side (now Player A) raise a hand.
Setup

3 Cones set up 3-5 yards apart.
Rules

The central player must complete 5 turns before rotating out.
Rotation

A - B - C
Coaching Points

Can make 1 or 2 touch.
Can be simple or deceptive turns.
Checking shoulder after passing and as they are about to receive a pass. (Or as age or skill level allows)
Focusing on their pass quality.
Having the central player open their body and step away from the cone once they know the pass is on.
Could have players switch out directly after their first pass (such as a 1-2 or pass and go) as a warmup drill.
